Frequently asked questions
What does German level A2 mean?
At A2, you can understand sentences and common expressions about everyday topics like family, shopping, your local area and work. You can handle simple routine conversations with direct information exchange and describe your background and immediate needs in simple terms. This course practises that kind of everyday German through short story-based units.
What happens in the A2 course?
In this course, you follow Mara’s second year in Munich with her host family and friends. The story covers everyday topics like family, health, housing, travel, the authorities and her first job application, and you listen to conversations and practise in short units.
What can I do with A2 German in Germany?
With A2, you can manage simple everyday situations and routine conversations that use direct, basic information. For some healthcare paths, A2 can already matter: qualified nurses can work in Germany during a recognition partnership if they have a foreign qualification of at least 2 years, a German work contract, an employer that takes part, and German at A2. This course helps you build the everyday language base, but for healthcare work we recommend aiming for B2 rather than stopping at the minimum.
What comes after A2?
After A2, the next step is usually B1. In Fluedy, the B1 course continues Mara’s story in her third year in Germany and includes Goethe-format mock exams. For many next steps in Germany, higher levels matter too: vocational training usually needs B1, nursing training needs B1 or B2 depending on the federal state, and qualified nurses need at least B2 for recognition.
